2nd Sept - Debate & Forts
Date : 2nd September 2006
Another very engrossing session which took place today. The main activity being debate, everyone had their eyes and ears open and hence everyone took part actively (actively as in the sense, by hearing and seeing).
The debate topic was Democracy vs Dictatorship. What is stronger and a better option of governing a nation, a democracy or dictatorship? What is more appropriate option for different countries or states?
From each patrol, 1 scout had to come out and give a speech on his topic.
P1 & P3 were for dictatorship and P2 & P4 were against it and supporting democracy.
The meeting started with a rally and prayer song. THe we moved into class XII A.
As we moved into the classes, a nervous expression wore on the faces of the PL's and the speakers. For me it was worse worse because I was the PL and the speakes ! But I was used to handling nerves by now.
The debate started. First it was Rohit Mahadeck from p3 who spoke supporting Dictatorship.
Though he did not speak that clearly, he emphasised mainly on how the corruption taking place in a democracy can be stopped in a dictator's rule.
It was then p2's turn and represnting them was Raunak Ajmani who was for democracy. He explained some definations of democracy, the laws and regulations and voting conditions but over and out there wasn't a definite flow in his speech.
Ishan Sadwelkar then spoke on behalf of p1, why he supported dictatorship. He mainly emphasized on the discipline and the betterment of the condition of the people and the strengthening of the defence.
p4 then sent Elston Braggs to speak on supporting a democratic rule. He spoke about similar topics which Ishan spoke about but contradicting them. He also explained the strength of the administration in a democracy.
After this there was a question answer round where scouts from all the patrols could contradict the statements made by the other patrols.
The rankings for the debate were :
p4, p1, p2, p3.
After this was the much looked forward game of Forts.
the standings of forts :
p3, p2, p1 & p4 at tied at third place.
The meeting then ended with a council meeting.
