Minor Camp 9th/10th Sep

MINOR CAMP

9th and 10th September
An event which the entire troop had been waiting for and preparing for; the minor camp (in school) was to be held on Saturday, the 9th of September! And when the day finally dawned, I'm sure that every scout must've had the feeling to put up an impressive performance on the big stage - the minor camp.

DAY 1 : Saturday, 9th SEP
The camp kicked off in usual meeting fashion; Ajit asked Apurva to call a rally on the basketball court near the Oesch Hall and we recited the prayer song. After that we had to pick up our bags (which made us look like dwarfs!) and shift to IX B. The SM's then gave us a briefing about the tasks to be completed pertaining to Patrol Efficiency and Logic. We noted down the logic questions and set off for our first activity- the major game of Forts!

FORTS FIRST ROUND
Everyone was seen busy preparing strategies, some were shouting out theirs because of excessive excitement! The ties were in the form of ROUND ROBIN. To make the understanding of these ties simpler, the following diagram has been provided :

p1 & p2 [ p1 won]

p3 & p4 [ p4 won]

p1 & p4 [ p4 won ]

p2 & p3 [ p3 won ]

p1 & p3 [ p1 won ]

p2 & p4 [ p4 won ]

So after this stage
p1 : played 3, won 2, lost 1.
p2 : played 3, won 0, lost 3.
p3 : played 3, won 1, lost 2.
p4 : played 3, won 3, lost 0.

MARKETING READYMADE INTERIORS
After forts was lunch time. The SM's and the council had lunch in XII B where the SM's explained the concept of marketing a readymade interior designing project. In similar words, if one were to design the inside of a room, the entire work would be given to a company who would design it from scratch. Thus the headache of designing an entire house would be on the company, and that was the product which was suppose to be advertised.
As soon as the lunch break ended, the troop sat in XII A
After the lunch break, all the patrols were given 45 minutes to market the product for which a billboard, a television advertisement and a marketing strategy (to be given by one scout each from all patrols) had to be presented.
The 45 minutes had gone with the wind, and all the patrols got their marketing stuff in class XII A. First, an ad had to be presented.
NOTE : FOR the ad, the more shorter and conveying it was, the more better it was!
p1 came out first with the name 'IDEAL HOMEMAKERS' where Udit and Aditya took part. The ad showed that a photographer comes to a beautiful model's house and instead of taking her pictures he starts photographing the house. He then rushes out to get the same interiors done for his own house also.
p2 ( Akhil, Apurva, Taha ) showed that a man walking in his house experiences his sealing cracking and withering away. To not let this happen, it was shown that one must get his house done with 'EAGLE BUILDERS'.
p3 had Adrian, Sharan and Drephus coming out and acting as friends who go to each others houses and on sitting on the furniture of one friend's house, it breaks while the other one stays fit and looks impressive. Hence they gave a reason why one should buy furniture from 'Proton Furnitures'.
p4's ad (will be added later)

It was then the turn of the billboard. Ideally the concept behind it was that it should be clear and catchy enough for a person driving by it.
p1 made a bold and colourful billboard on 'Ideal Homemakers' with the slogan 'For those who value their time and money'. It compared a house with ordinary interiors and a house with 'Ideal Homemakers' interiors.
p2's billboard showed 'building with I.Q.' How a chair can be made ordinarily with wood or how it can be made with putting wheels and comfortable backrest. 'Just leave it on us' was the concept.
p3's concept was shown by comparing a blank space with the same space composed by 'Proton Furnitures'. Special offers were also available on purchasing these things.[the concept could not be easily understood]
p4 made a company called 'Ellie Furnitures' with a billboard showing a room designed by them, with various articles [but frankly, it was a bit unclear].

Then from each patrol, one representative had to come to class XI B and give a briefing about his marketing strategy. Since this activity was done privately and individually I cannot enclose a lot of details.

Then again there was a small break of about 15 minutes after which the entire troop had to rally and get set for the treasure hunt.

TREASURE HUNT
The treasure hunt is considered to be one of the most looked forward to and planned activities. Each patrol had to send 6 guys on cycles along with a SM. p4 left first, p2 second, p3 third and p1 last each after an interval of 10 minutes each (so as to avoid confusion and cheating).
The remaining four guys would remain in school for a surprise activity(which was estimation and a debate on Euthanasia). Anyways, getting back to the treasure hunt, the clues were as follows :

#1 First from the gate, the clue was Knight Rook ___ King Queen __ Rook Knight. The answer was The Bishop's School [these are pieces on a chessboard].
# 2 We had to unscramble a clue (will be updated later ) which led to Turf Club.
# 3 There we had to act out 'Silver Jubilee' in Dumsharads fashion
# 4 From there the clue was to follow a map which only told directions
leading to Inox.
# 5 At Inox, the clue was 'Graahak Thambaa' in Marathi which on Translating means 'Shoppers Stop'.
# 6 From there a diagram with a planet and a M in front of it showed Planet M.
# 7 At Planet M there was another diagram which on solving showed Saint _ Win_Cent_ which actually refers to Saint Vincent's!

The treasure hunt ended and each patrol was given Rs.50 to buy material for starters and desserts, because the treasure hunt was going to be followed by cooking !

COOKING
The SM's then distributed the ingredients and material for making DUM ALOO. The recipe was given and explained to us. We al occupied the area near the small stadium and near the peon's quarters to immediately start with the cooking.
2 hours were given to us in which we had to submit a starter, the main course which was dun aloo and dessert.
After 2 hours the SM's called us in class XII B. All the patrols submitted their ready dishes to the hungry SM's.

We then had a dinner break for about 45 minutes.
This was then followed by one of the most entertaining camp activities, the skit and song.

SKIT AND SONG
The skit and song was held in the quadrangle in front of the Primary Section which proved to be a perfect mini amphitheatre with the steps and everything.
p3's chance was first, the made a skit called 'The making of Mautallica'. Mau is the nickname of Mrs. Karmarkar. The skit showed that she wanted to make a song for the Ganesh Festival and thus she made a band called 'Mautallica'. Good actimg by Yezdi as Mrs. Karmarkar, Ralph as Rohit Wankhede of IX C and Sharan as a backbencher highlighted their skit. The song was rapped by Ralph with the beats given by the rest of the patrol.
p1 was next and they came up with a sequel of Himesh Reshmiyya's satire which they had performed in the earlier meeting. It was called 'Why Himesh Reshmiyya Made the song Aashiq Banaya Aapne Part II'.
The police put Himesh in a mental hospital because of his singing. Out there his mouth is sealed. Because Himesh wants to escape, he somehow frees his mouth and starts singing. Listening to his singing, everyone in the hospital dies ; except 3 mad men who are deaf !!!Himesh phones up Andu - Pandu for help. Andu - Pandu think it is dangerous to help him because he's mad and hence they ask the police to catch him. The police catch him and put him in jail. The next day The Three Mad men see his photo in the newspaper. They think that they should rescue him ! So they go in the police station and rescue him. But instead, Topi Singh comes and rescues him leaving everyone in confusion. And that is why Himesh Reshmiya again made the song - AASHIQ BANAYA AAPNE !!!
Ishan made a valiant effort to make a rock song with grungy lyrics but the background beats let the song down.
p4 came out with a hilarious skit called 'God Knows Who's G**' with Andre's acting as a mad heart patient, Hansmukh as his boss who wants to attract every male who comes in his office, Elston as a g** friend, Umar as a idiotic shopkeeper and Siddhant Raizada as an unqualified doctor really made the skit worthy to watch. It was a mixed up composition of many jokes which eventuall turned out to be very very hilarious. This is a blog being viewed by school students hence the jokes cannot be revealed through this. Let's keep this blog clean !!!
Their song was simultaneous rap with good beats.
p2'2 skit was rather disappointing. It was deep. Navroze and his friends wanted to bash up scouts sleeping in a tent and outside it. First they attack Aakil who's sleeping outside. He thinks Apurva [who's sleeping inside] attacked him. The he is attacked again. He again thinks Apurva attacked him. Finally they both exchange places and then the rogues think of attacking the inside guy. Hence it is Aakil who is attacked again.
Their song was a slow poem which Aakil read out.

Eventually, Falg Raiders was cancelled because it was getting too late. The patrols then retired to their classes and started solving logic and PE for the night. Some poor unlucky guys were pasted!

Points at the end of the day are as follows :
p1 - 530
p2 - 485
p3 - 480
p4 - 590

Day 2 : Sunday, 10th SEP

The night was without sleep and the day to follow promised opportunities to every patrol to improve their performances.
The day started at 6:00 am with inspection. All the patrols had to rally outside their classes and the PL had to show the class to the SM's.

After this we had to have some tea and then the investiture ceremony.

INVESTITURE

The investiture ceremony was held in class XII B. First the council was invested. Ajit explained us the basic concepts of the significance of the scarf and woggle and the slogan 'Do a Good Turn Daily'. Every scout is supposed to maintain a diary in which he has to write down his good turn everyday. Then he should tie a reef knot to the ends of his scarf to show that he has done a good turn that day. The rest of the troop was given their badges and scarfs

Everyone was eagerly waiting for the investiture to get over only for one reason, the forts finals!

FORTS FINALS

The troop rallied for the forts finals, this time rather well planned with each of their strategies. p3 & p2 were pitted against each other. Everyone cheered on for p2 but a fantastic shot by Yezdi through Taha's keeping defence broke the fort and shattered p2's hopes for a victory. Eventually p3 won, finishing 3rd, 1-0.
And the best match was still in store. p1 had already been beated badly in their previous meeting against p4. But this time they came out with a gameplan and lot of motivation, both the teams were equal until one of Sahil's shots weakened the fort and Aditya Nair's smart slow short dropped the fort and with it the shoulders of p4. p1 won the major game 1-0.

SUBMISSION OF P.E. AND LOGIC

Submission of PE and logic was next after the enjoyable game of forts. All the patrols got their soap carving, book cover, raft and logic paper to class IX C. The rafts were judged according to the amount of time they float and the amount of marbles they hold without topling over. The other things were jugded according to the opinions of the SM's.

After that one scout from each patrol had to come privately to Khoj and Jaosh and give a speech about his plan of an ideal form of Government.

simultaneously, we had to send 2 people from each patrol for the adventure activity.

ADVENTURE ACTIVITY

First we had to rappel down the first floor from the 1o the std corridor, run to the other end of the ground right to the stadium and do a monkey crawl and a commando bridge. After that we had to run to another tree and climb it with the help of a rope. On the completion of that, we had to run to the peepul tree opposite the Gulati Hall and swing from it to a particular point and only if one would reach that point we could run back from that place and reach the starting point near IX C and report.

This time would be measured and the patrol with the fastest time would come first. p4 sent Umar and Raizada, p3 sent Ralph and Alister, p2 sent Navroze and Aakil and p1 sent Sahil and Anvito.

THIS WAS THE LAST ACTIVITY OF THE CAMP.

After this everyone was waiting eagerly for about an hour for the results to be announced. We started keeping bets on who would come first and who would come last. The most votes of the winner went to p4 and everyone thought that p2 would come last !!!

RESULTS

Finally, after the long wait, the troop rallied for the last time in the camp and the results were annonunced.

THE RANKINGS (points will be announced later)

p1

p4

p3

p2

Best Junior - Navroze (p2), Best upcoming junior - Rohit Mahadeck (p3)Best Scout - Ishan Sadwelkar (PL of p1)
